Technical Writer/Editor

  • The Technical Writer/Editor will edit Navy electronic manuals and accurately structure them in SGML or XML per established guidelines. The position requires the ability to adhere to format requirements, import and integrate text and graphics, determine fonts, accurately type engineering and mathematical symbols, and produce accurately linked interactive manuals.
  • The Technical Writer/Editor should possess general experience that demonstrates the ability to accurately edit complex publications.
  • This position requires a minimum of three years’ experience performing technical editing and desktop publishing.
  • The technical writer must have the ability to review the content of technical documents for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate language, as well as organization, visual design, and usability in conformance with established standards and specifications. The technical editor must have the ability to use proper grammar and identify written grammatical errors.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects with sensitivity to tight deadlines while maintaining document quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skills must include authoring/editing with desktop publishing software, such as Adobe Frame Maker or Epic Editor; Familiarity with mark-up languages such as HTML, SGML, and/or XML. Graphic editing is a plus.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Outgoing personality and experience working with customers
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Capable to handle fast-paced and high-energy in a rapidly changing working environment 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance

Clearance: Secret

In addition, U.S Citizenship is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation to include but not limited to: criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.
